Lust List: Summer Shoes Edition

I'm off to Turkey at the end of August and I literally own 0 pairs of sandals. I've got a massive thing for jelly sandals at the moment so I'm thrilled that Topshop, Asos & New Look are all stocking them in various styles and colours. I think my favourites are the blue ones from Topshop. I also love the Asos gladiator sandals (3) and the patterned ones (13) too. 

As much as I like sandals though, more often than not I'll still go for a light summer shoe like a desert boot or a brogue so these peachy pink ones from Urban Outfitters (7) are ideal, and the cream cut-out fringe brogues from Asos (12) are ridiculously cute too! 

I definitely intend to pick up a good few of these for my holiday!

Review: Dainty Doll Eyeliner Pencils



Dainty Doll was created by Nicola Roberts (of Girls Aloud) with the intention of creating products that "enhance the beauty of fairer skin tones". Honestly, I don't really see how that idea translates to these eyeliners as they seem to be fairly suitable for all skin tones. 

I've read a lot of good things about the Dainty Doll brand, especially their lipsticks and blushes, so when I spotted the eyeliners on a recent Fragrance Direct haul, I picked up two of them!


Now I LOVE the packaging of these! The sleek black packaging with the gold accent makes it look quite expensive and more like a luxury brand. The box with the caricature of Nicola Roberts is great too.  

Formula wise, they're soft and incredibly pigmented as well as applying really well too. 


I got the shades 'I'm So Pretty' and 'Night Train'. 

'I'm So Pretty' is a lovely chocolate brown with a matte finish. It's a great shade for brown and green eyes and suits most light to medium skin tones. It's so smooth and lasts for about 10 hours with minor smudging on the lash line, thought that could be due to the very hot weather. On the waterline, it only lasted for about 3 hours. 



'Night Train' is a deep, matte blue/navy shade. The formula and lasting time is exactly the same as above. Due to the softness of these, I think they'd even make decent eyeshadows as they're easy to blend. Both of them would be ideal in smoky eye looks for most eye colours, 'Night Train' looking especially striking against blue eyes. 
The swatches below show just how pigmented they are. 


Usually retailing for £10.50, they are on the dearer end of drugstore prices but considering the wearability of these shades and the great formula, I would be more than willing to pay the full retail price for them. At 99p on Fragrance Direct, they're a complete steal!

Lust List: Drugstore Edition

I have so many products that I'm currently lusting after so I've decided to create a group of posts called 'Lust List'. They'll be a compilation of all the items I want at the moment and will vary in content with a couple being fashion related. I'm not sure how often they'll occur, probably whenever I have the time and inclination for them! 
Today's is on drugstore beauty. As much as I love luxury products, it's just not viable for me to buy them all the time so here's a list of my Top 17 (was originally supposed to be 10 but I got carried away, there's a LOT of decent things out at the moment).

1 & 2: Topshop Lip Bullets in 'Covet' and 'Heartbeat' -  £8. 
I absolutely love Topshop beauty, I think they're one of the most reliable brands, 9 times out of 10 the products are faultless. I currently only own one of their lip products so I definitely need to expand my collection! After seeing a review and swatches of these on LLYMRS, I decided that I had to have them and they've made their way to the top of my current wish list!

3: Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation - £10.99.
I'm in the market for a new, light foundation with good coverage and this one seems to do everything I'd want it to.

4 & 5: Maybelline Eyestudio Colour Tattoo 24hr in 'On and On Bronze' and 'Permanent Taupe' - £4.99. 
Without a doubt my favourite drugstore eyeshadows; pigmented and long-lasting. I own 3 already but always want more.

6: Sleek 'Sweet Cheeks' Blush - £9.99. 
I've read so many rave reviews about this and neeeeed to try it out.

7 & 8: Look Make Me Blush blushes in 'Flirt' and 'Flush' - £5. 
I love a good peachy pink blush and these look ideal! They are pretty similar so I'd probably only get one but I need to swatch these when I'm next near a Superdrug that stocks them (my local one doesn't).

9, 10, 11 & 12: Barry M Gelly Nail Paints in 'Blue Grape', 'Pomegranite', 'Guava' and 'Lychee' - £3.99.
 The formula of these is probably my favourite. They're so shiny and last for days which is unusual for me because most of the time my nails are chipped within hours even when I'm not doing anything! The bright ones are perfect for this heatwave/actual summer we're currently having in the UK and 'Lychee' looks like a great nude shade.

13: Sleek True Colour Lipstick in 'Peaches & Cream' - £4.99. 
I haven't tried much from Sleek apart from their blushes, I have Rose Gold (a pretty much spot on dupe for Nars Orgasm) and Flamingo which are both super pigmented. This lipstick is a lovely peach colour and I don't have anything like it in my current collection.

14: Bourjois Effet 3D Lipgloss in 'Rose or Epic' - £7.69. 
I'm not usually a lipgloss fan but after my mum tried one out and loved it (she's incredibly selective with make-up), I decided I really wanted one. This shade's really wearable and not too bright.

15 & 16: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stains in 'Rendezvous' and 'Lovesick' - £7.99.
 I already own 'Honey' and 'Crush' and love them. I want a couple of more summer-appropriate shades though and these tick the bill!

17: Revlon Ultimate Suede Lipstick in 'Designer' - £8.99. 
I've swatched this in my local Boots and I love it! The shade and the finish are perfect, the only thing stopping me from buying it is the price. Next time there's a 3 for 2 offer on I am picking this baby up!

Weekly Overview #2

(Horizontally) 1. Fruit with yoghurt & honey, aka my favourite breakfast. 2. My Givenchy sunglasses. 3. Outfit for my work induction. 4. Grocery shopping with mum. 5, 6, 7 & 8. Drunken night out. 9. Ripped shoes after aforementioned night out.

On Tuesday I went to my work induction, I had no idea what the dress code was so I just went smart all black in my new Topshop trousers that are literally the comfiest things ever. It went really well and I'm officially employed and due to start on Saturday! 

I went shopping in Exeter with my family on Wednesday and then to the beach on Thursday evening with my two best friends, it was just to nice to relax. On Friday, I went grocery shopping with my mum. I've decided that our local Tesco is the place for me to test out risky clothing decisions i.e crop tops etc before wearing them properly around people I know. I love the shorts I wore, ripped denim is my favourite. 

The next few pictures aren't really socially acceptable haha! I went out for my friend's 18th on Saturday night and just took a load of drunken pictures while my best friend passed out on my shoulder. It was a ridiculously good night but I physically can't drink for a couple of weeks, my body needs time to recover from that much alcohol and the hangover that followed. 

As much as I love those shoes, they're the single most uncomfortable pair I own. It's the first time (and the last time) I've ever worn them and they refused to stay on my feet so I'm covered in scratches and I'm pretty sure I've strained my ankle. They've also ripped down the front! I guess you know you've had a great night when you completely destroy your shoes!

Review: Rimmel Glam Eyes Mono Eyeshadows


When it comes to affordable drugstore brands, Rimmel ranks near the top for me. Their products and formulas are pretty near faultless with examples such as their Apocalips collection and their Scandal Eyes Kohl Liners which I swear by. 

As I'd purchased one of the Glam Eyes Mono Eyeshadows before (Spicy Bronze) as well as a Trio in Modern Blues which I've had no problems with whatsoever, I assumed that all their eyeshadows would be as reliable so when I saw them on Fragrance Direct for 99p, I jumped at the chance to expand my collection. Unfortunately, the shades I bought were a bit lacklustre. 


I don't really have any issues with the packaging; yes it's plastic and pretty cheap looking but it's sturdy and allows you to see the product which is lovely with the Rimmel logo embossed in the centre. 

As far as the formula goes, I find it can be a bit hit and miss. They're all really soft and easy to blend but tend to vary in pigmentation. 'Spicy Bronze' is highly pigmented but these two aren't overly so though they do have good highlighting potential. 


'Gold Rush' looks beautiful in the pan, a pale gold with a shimmer finish. Unfortunately, it doesn't really translate on to the lid. It's really poor as far as pigmentation goes and even when applied liberally (the swatches below have about 5 layers) it's not great. I do find it works better when applied with fingers rather than a brush but the result isn't greatly improved and there's a lot of fall out either way. 


'Precious Rose' is similarly beautiful, a delicate soft pink also with a shimmer finish. The formula is exactly same as above but as mentioned before both shades would make wonderful highlighters. 

Both eyeshadows look virtually the same when blended so it's completely unnecessary to own the two of them, one is more than suffice. They do offer a pretty highlighting effect that brightens the face and eyes. I choose to wear these on the inside of my eyelid to make my eyes appear bigger and brighter as well as under the eyebrows. 

As far as wear time goes, they last for around 8 hours with minor fading and creasing though that may be due to me not wearing a primer on my oily lids and the hot weather!


For 99p, they're not too bad but I definitely don't think I'd spend the full £4.49 on them. Saying that, I do have my eyes on a few other shades like 'Punchy Taupe' and 'Urban Green' and I'm sure they'll end up in my collection soon. 

For an overall wash of colour, these aren't what you're looking for but if you want a nice, shimmery highlighter then these would be ideal! 

Overall, Rimmel Glam Eyes Eyeshadows have really impressed me though like all brands, there are a few iffy shades. I'd definitely recommend picking one up! Unfortunately neither of these shades are available here on Fragrance Direct (it's worth having a look from time to time as they're always updating their stock) but if you'd like to buy them then they're still in stock in Boots here

Weekly Overview #1

(Vertically) 1. Watching Shrek. 2. Sunbathing in the garden. 3. Tattoo. 4. Plymouth with mum. 
5. Food shopping. 6. My favourite breakfast - peanut butter & honey on toast with various fruit (banana and peach are my favourites).

It hasn't be a drastically busy week in all honesty. 
I went swimming with my best friend on Monday, lounged around the house on Tuesday and Wednesday before the most exciting part of my week, Thursday: the day I got my first tattoo. 

It hurt but that's pretty obvious when you're getting pricked with a needle repetitively but it's more than bearable when you look at how cute the outcome is. I got two elephants, that represent me and my mum (due to them being the symbol on strength and the amount of bad times we've been through but we're still standing), on the inside of my left wrist. It's still very weird and I'm not used to the fact that it's going to be there every time I look haha! 

I then went shopping with my mum in Plymouth on Friday and got a load of black clothes for the new job that I'm hopefully starting on Tuesday! This weekend has been spent blogging and planning out my healthy eating & exercise schedule as well as just spending time with my family.
